Nutrition details
Breastfeeding is very demanding in terms of energy expenditure. By taking the necessary substances from the body through breastfeeding, the baby needs them supplemented with a balanced diet.
These are in particular:
- increased protein intake, about approx 15 g daily, increased carbohydrate intake of about 50 g daily,
- replenishmented of fats (especially omega 3 fatty acids),
- sufficient supply of iodine, vitamins and minerals.
Children are able to intake substances through breast milk, that do not suit them and can cause various reactions from bloating, insomnia to allergies once they enter the child's digestion system. To minimize the difficulties, it is advisable to focus on adjusting the diet during breastfeeding and definitely avoid drastic diets. During drastic weight loss after birth, all harmful substances, together with fats, are washed out of the body and enter breast milk. Healthy weight loss in nursing mothers must be gradual.
As soon as the fourth month, the baby usually begins to move sufficiently, and colic, which is to some extent a natural manifestation of immature bowel function in the early stages of digestive system development, is no longer a problem. Only since then can mom gradually add more food, always one specie at a time to find out how the child reacts to the food.
